Team LATYS Welcomes New Interns

Montreal, QC, CANADA
July 2022

This week Team LATYS has welcomed two new interns, Zahra Taheri and Mohammed Farouk Nakmouche.

Zahra (right) and Farouk (left) who are PhD candidates at Concordia University and ETS, respectively.

They will be working alongside the LATYS engineering team to test and evaluate the performance of LATYS AIRs in realistic crowded environments. Zahra and Farouk’s work will be critical in validating the benefits that LATYS AIRs bring to any wireless network.

Mohammed Farouk Nakmouche was born in Laghouat, Algeria, in 1992. He received his BSc. and MSc degrees in Telecommunication Systems and Networks Engineering from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Amar Telidji University of Laghouat, Algeria, in 2013 and 2015, respectively, and now he is doing a PhD in Electrical Engineering at ETS. He is an energetic and creative researcher/engineer with 6 years of experience in RF/microwave/antenna engineering and 3 years in the machine learning field.

His areas of research include antenna, Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS), and metasurfaces design methodology and performance optimization utilizing machine learning and heuristic algorithms for various applications and using different technologies such as Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW), Ridge Gap Waveguide (RGW), and Additive Manufacturing (AM). Mohammed Farouk Nakmouche has been involved in various international projects in France, Turkey, Egypt, Taiwan, and now Canada that helped him to build a very comprehensive knowledge and expertise with CST Microwave Studio, Ansys HFSS, and Keysight ADS in the design and modelling of antennas, filters, and couplers (from VHF to the mm-wave band).

Zahra received her B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, and the M.Sc. degree in Electrical and Communication Engineering from Yazd university, Yazd, Iran, in 2012. She worked as a Research Assistant at the R&D Center in Isfahan University of Technology for several years. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.

Her research interests include Wireless Communication, Statistical Signal Processing, Array Signal Processing and Beamforming, and Signal Detection and Estimation.
